Lots of people were waiting for this little girl to arrive. I was thrilled to pay a visit to meet and photograph her.
For the photographers that visit, here's the behind the scenes technical stuff...
I recently studied a Lifestyle Newborn Photography Breakout Session through Clickin' Moms. With a pocketful of inspiration, I headed over to put my new knowledge to work. The first things I noticed about the home were the hardwood floors and nice thick moldings. There was beautiful soft light coming in through the windows. I wanted to use my new Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L ii lens, however, after one test shot, I knew I needed to open up even wider to get my exposures nice and bright. I switched to the 50mm f/1.2L and opened up to f/1.8 - f/2.0. With the ISO at 640, I was getting enough light, while keeping the noise down. I metered off her skin making adjustments only to the shutter speed until I got the histogram looking good. Focus points were selected manually right onto those beautiful eyes, or in some cases, her little feet and expressions. I did prop up my reflector in some shots to add some nice catchlights in her eyes.
Editing was pretty easy. For some shots, I did do a significant amount of cloning just to simplify the image. Her skin tone was flawless, so I really just took out a little red that my camera seems to naturally add and I brightened a bit. From the Paint the Moon Luminosity the Essence action set, I ran Whispers at 50% the opacity and painted it off her face. This just softened the edges a little.
If you are a photographer and you find my ramblings helpful, feel free to leave a comment or ask me a question.
Thank you D&J and Baby C! Congratulations!!!
